The human body is meant to move. Dance is simply movement to music so anyone can do it. The energizing and uplifting qualities of this style means that everyone no matter what their experience, age, size or whatever simply is welcomed into the class. The capability of the body to rise to the tough challenges put forward. No matter at what point this starts - whether from inexperience or experience, large or small, old or young - the differences between these factors aren’t as great as Society would have you believe!
The general structure of the introductory classes involves first, getting to know and appreciate the body you are in. The student will study Egyptian rhythms and learn the step combinations for those rhythms. Putting it all together by learning one or more choreographies is the most successful method of learning the dance at each level. As dancers reach higher levels, they will be taught layering techniques, typical of the Egyptian style of dance. All levels, from beginner to performance to pedagogy for teachers will be taught at other workshops including step combinations for all levels with increased complexity for the more advanced dancer, and include instruction in the use of props, such as cane, sword, veil and of course, zills.
No pre-requisites required for introduction to Egyptian Belly Dancing. Just a sense of fun and a willingness to learn something new.
